A chance to see Irelands best landscape photographers all under one roof with a unique concept and brand new work. From Dalkey Island to Inis Mor and back to the Skelligs. The artists have taken separate journeys across some of Irelands most remote island landscapes to interpret the meaning and energy of the Irish islands.
Our art is a solitary pursuit, waiting around in obscure isolated locations for the elements to align in perfect unison so we can communicate the spirit of the location, our own vision of a place, a feeling or an idea.
It seemed fitting to explore the notion of islands as individuals and bring the work together to see if common themes would emerge. Would our personal styles overwrite the very nature of our surroundings or would the work find a collective expression that ties the exhibition together?
Isolation and space have come to the fore. Something that defines the very nature of islands and our art as landscape photographers. More tangibly the ocean, lighthouses, old and ancient structures hundreds of miles apart, abandoned, used and disused, but inextricably connected in a practical sense to islands. The smell of the ocean, the wind, deserted landscape, sometimes desolate, but always inspiring.
These are the themes that have emerged when we discussed our experiences creating this body of work. While our personal styles have all been brought to bear, the very nature of the locations we have visited comes screaming through and binds the exhibition together. Isolated but unified.
