Workshop Information – Sherkin and Cape Clear Island in Focus

Clear Island or Cape Clear Island (officially known by its Irish name: Cléire, and sometimes also called Oileán Chléire) lies south-west of County Cork in Ireland. It is the southernmost inhabited part of the island of Ireland and has a population of over 100 people. Officially it is a Gaeltacht (Irish-speaking area), and most inhabitants speak Irish and English. Anchored by the glow of the Fastnet Lighthouse this workshop includes a boat trip out to the Fastnet as well as sunrise, sunset, and conditions permitting nighttime shoots. Rohan will also take you to some of his favourite spots on Sherkin including shipwrecks and castles. An adventure not to be missed!

Theme and Concept

The concept of the IrishLight workshops is to create a unique body of work, guided by workshop leaders, and executed by you the participants. Your images from the workshop will form the IrishLight collection 2017 and will be promoted both domestically and internationally as a collection of work. Read more here about IrishLight Collection 2016 HERE ..

This year’s theme is An tOileán – The Island. Expect your work to be turned into and exhibition and a book all in aid of charity. A workshop like no other. Peter Gordon will liaise with you after the workshop, help you edit and prepare your work, for final presentation.

Workshop Weekend Programme

We do not set out a specific location itinerary, as Rohan will bring you to the best locations under prevailing light conditions. As a general guide however, we will be visiting locations such as The Fastnet Lighthouse and shipwrecks and castles on Sherkin Island.

The workshop commences on Thursday afternoon. After a boat ride to Sherkin we will get out for an afternoon shoot and sunset. Friday & Saturday will entail sunrise and sunset shooting with a short break after breakfast to maximise our chances of making great shots. We will finish up on Sunday after our sunrise shoot. There is also a chance to shoot night time imagery if conditions are favourable. Logistics of the trip will be emailed to participants when they sign up for the workshop.

Following the workshop Peter Gordon will edit your favourite 3 images from your workshop to be included in the Irish Light collection 2017.
